You need a new computer full stop. There's really nothing here besides maybe the hard drive that won't have to be replaced. You'd need a new CPU, which will require a new mobo since it sounds like you have a Socket 478 P4, and there is a Socket 478 CPU that's fast enough for GTA IV. You'll need new RAM, because the old DDR1 RAM isn't compatible with anything made in the last 8 years or so. And you won't be using the AGP/PCI video card either because newer boards don't have AGP ports and even integrated video is faster than that S3 crap. So you can see where it really wouldn't make much sense dumping hundreds of dollars into your ancient computer.

After that was over... I caught him staring at me. That went on for the rest of the school year. While we were at a week long camp(in May), he was in my group, one thing on my mind- oh joy... I told this kid who I joke around with a lot that I, jokingly, hated him, the guy who I'm asking the question about(who I'll nickname 'boy') was behind me talking to a guy. Boy then said, 'you don't hate me, right?'. Confused I said "no.. you're alright." that was odd. On the last day of school, Boy walked up to me blushing and was going to say something, but then walked away.(I know it's long, bare with me!) He has been in 4 of my classes(not including 6th grade) during the course of middle school, and has been my project partner once, and we barely talked to each other during that time, or during middle school at all. First off, I'm not socially awkward, I love conversation and I'm very outgoing. It's just that when guys ask me out, I usually say no, no matter how much I care for the guy. I'm 16 and never had a boyfriend, but could easily have one if I lowered my standards... I feel like such an a**, but that's just how I feel. Theres only been one guy who I wanted to date, but he was older, so it would've caused problems in the long run. My friends tell me to lower my standards, but I just can't. If i have ddr rams, can i just replace my ram as ddr3 without any modifications?

You can not upgrade nor downgrade your ram from DDR1 to DDR2 or to DDR3. You are stuck with whatever your motherboard will support. You can however, install new ram cards that have more memory ie (from 512 MB to 1 GB). When you are installing new ram cards you simply unlock the old ones from each side. Then take out your old cards, and put in your new ones and lock them. No software is required for your new ram cards.

so economics and other various factors have reduced my desire to play eq2 to only mobile, free wi-fi networks. today i was looking at a laptop for US$299 at best buy. it appears to have all the required specs to play the game, 3gb ddr ram, 2.2ghz processor, only the graphics is 128mb :( . so looking into this i also learned that most laptops cant have their graphics upgraded. so, my question is, is buying this laptop (which is the only one in my price range atm) worth buying if im only going to play eq2 at say...denny's? will the 128mb graphics actually run the game with the 3gb of ram? im just please help! dont want to buy this thing only to find out eq2 isnt going to function on it....

I would go for the RAM for RAM speeds up your computer. Windows 7 uses exactly 1GB of RAM so if you upgrade to 2GB you'll notice a huge speed performance, for the video card. I wouldn't... thats mainly for gaming and what not, just go for the RAM upgrade...

Which is better: ATI 5450 DDR3 2GB memory -vs- ATI 5550 DDR 1GB?

Generally speaking, the more memory the better. DDR3 is also better than DDR, and after looking at the specs for both cards I don't see anything to recommend the 5550 over the 5450. The 5550 just looks to be a lower end version of the 5450. Go with the 5450.

Well as some help: Some computers can only use a certain amount of RAM, but may actually have more as a kind of back up source. The computer you have there seems to be a media/home model if it can only use 2 gigs of RAM. The part where it says "PC manufacturer's maximum memory may differ" only means that the actual manufacturer could have made it handle more RAM, probably not though. I'm not sure about this, but I think it is possible to trick your PC into using all of your RAM assuming you have more than 2 gigs of it. I would say your computer can only hold 2 gigs without any problems.

Umm. DDR3 is used in RAM, GDDR5 is used in video cards. GDDR5 is faster. 5670 is old and it wont support future games that are at least some GPU intensive (you'll surely lag). Go for nVidia GTX 460 in SLI (get 2 cards if your mobo supports (has 2 PCI-E x16 slots) even single is better than 5670), 68xx, 58xx, or any GTX-series.

Desktop- RAM Upgrade Query?

best advice is to stick both ram chips in and boot the computer. If one is not compatible with the other the computer will make a "beep" sound over and over again and not boot. if the computer boots up and counts the correct amount of ram your good to go. they say not to mix and match the different ram speeds but in my experience if it the same type "ddr1" and "ddr2" sticks in the same machine it seems to run just fine. so if the ram is the wrong kind the computer will "beep" and not boot up and keep on beeping to let you know it doesn't like the ram. you wont hurt your system in doing this. im 99% sure of it.

Would more RAM help my gaming much?

Im a big Minecraft player, and my Gateway ms2274 laptop has 2 memory slots. Both are occupied, one with a 2 gb DDR PC2-6400, the other with a 1 gb DDR PC2-6400. I can only hold up to 4 gb. My game lags a lot, so would a 2 gb chip in place of the 1 gb chip make that big of a difference?

You will probably have to source these 2nd hand, socket 478 mobos and CPUs are now basically obselete have been discontinued for quite a few years now, you'll have a hard time finding new stock of these. Okay so i have been friend's with her for such a long time. We were super close during our junior and senior year of high school . How much of an upgrade will this new CPU/Mobo/RAM be?

It's going to be a pretty big jump. I did something similar but what I don't understand is why your still sitting around 4 gig's of ram? It sounds like your trying to build a gaming rig and your going to short what you can do with ram. Yes you have fast ram and yes you can OC it, but why not put like 12 gigs in? You can go up to 32 gig's with the board your getting. Your computer is going to be a beast. I do wonder what kind of video card your going to get. I see you only have one slot for PCI Express 2.0 tho. Your going to have to get a monster video card with that rig or it's going to be all for nothing.

I'm 17, I'm 5'1, and I weigh about 130 pounds. I'm going into my senior year and I just really want to lose some weight over the summer, just like 10 - 15 pounds. I plan to do like wii sports, wii fit, or DDR for 20 mins. And like crunches, pushups, weights, for 15 mins on top of that. Both 6 days a week. And I plan to walk or ride my bike for like 30 mins at least 2 days a week. I'm also going to cut back on junk food and try to watch what I eat. Does this sound like a good plan? How long do you think it would take to reach my goal?

Which laptop is better dell or acer?

I kinda agree with everyone here. The Acer slightly has the better specs (mostly just the graphics chip, which only makes a difference when it comes to gaming) but Aspires tend to not be a good long-term computer. Dell's at least have a better reputation and they're probably better for everyday use.
