Why is my ddr for wii player 2 remote not working?

i just got ddr for my wii. its the one in the blue and white box that comes with both the mat and the game. i went and bought another mat to play it on 2 player mode. the second wii remote for player 2 is not working. i tried to sync it and everything. whenever i do the hand motions with it, it says miss on the screen even though im doing every one of them correctly and then at the end i have an E and i missed all of them. on the player 1 remote it works perfectly and i get them all perfect. what's going on?!
